Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
A North Carolina fatal accident can take place anywhere at any time. Those who work in industries such as construction and utility maintenance frequently find themselves on or near the roadway for several hours per day. These individuals are very vulnerable to being killed or injured by inattentive and negligent drivers who are unaware of their surroundings. Drivers should always exercise extreme caution when traveling through work zones or other areas where workers are in the roadway in order to avoid a tragic outcome.
Under North Carolina law, the surviving family members of the deceased may be able to pursue a wrongful death claim when their loved one has been killed by a third party. A North Carolina wrongful death claim involves filing a lawsuit against the person directly responsible for the death. These cases must be filed within two years of the date of death and they will seek compensation for funeral and medical bills, loss of companionship, lost wages, and more.
