Benson, NC – Woman Killed in Tractor-Trailer Accident on I-95

Benson, NC (August 20, 2020) – A woman was killed after her car was hit by an 18-wheeler near Benson on Tuesday, August 18th. The crash took place in the southbound lanes of I-95 near Exit 81 and I-40.
Fire crews were the first to arrive on the scene following the crash. According to reports, rescue workers located an SUV in the southbound travel lanes and a tractor-trailer in the emergency lane. Police were able to determine that the crash occurred when the tractor-trailer crashed into the back of the SUV. Medical officials rendered aid to the female driver of the SUV and a child who was a passenger in the vehicle. Ultimately, the driver died as a result of the crash and the child was taken to a local hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries. The deceased victim has not been identified at this time.
Police identified the truck driver as Tyler Kreiser. Following an investigation, Kreiser was issued a charge for misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. The crash caused several lanes of I-95 to close temporarily but they were later reopened to traffic.
No further details have been released at this time. An investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
