Fatal Accidents in Cary
Last year in North Carolina, there were more than 270,000 traffic accidents reported in our state. Major highways such as Interstate 40 are a breeding ground for crashes to occur. Due to higher speed limits, congested roadways, and a higher concentration of negligent driving, being on a highway can be a hazardous activity. When a North Carolina car accident occurs on a highway or other major road, the results are often serious and catastrophic.
If you have lost a loved one in a car accident in North Carolina, it is important to have a full understanding of your legal rights. Many people are so preoccupied with grief and sadness following a fatal accident that the last thing they want to worry about is a potential legal claim. While this is an understandable feeling, seeking justice can be valuable, especially when you are faced with sudden financial hardships as a result of the accident.
Under North Carolina law, the victim’s personal representative has up to two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim against the negligent driver. North Carolina’s wrongful death laws allow for the recovery of various types of compensation, including lost wages, funeral and medical bills, loss of companionship, and potentially more.
