Rutherford County, NC (September 11, 2020) – Three people were killed in a head-on crash that took place on US 64 in Rutherford County on Thursday, September 10th. The crash was reported around 4:30 p.m. near the Parton Lumber Company.
According to troopers with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 29-year-old Wendy Cha of Hickory was traveling eastbound on US 64 at a high rate of speed. Cha attempted to pass a vehicle traveling in the same direction. She crossed over a double yellow line and collided head-on with a westbound vehicle on US 64.
Chad died at the crash scene. Two occupants of the other vehicle, 31-year-old Samantha Rice and 29-year-old Harley Rice, were also killed in the collision. There were no other injuries reported. Police are still investigating the crash at this time. It is believed that speed played a role.
