North Carolina Pedestrian Crashes
Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable groups on the roadway at any given time. According to statistics provided by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, nearly 80% of all North Carolina pedestrian accidents result in injuries. In 2018, 225 people were killed in pedestrian crashes, an increase of more than 12% from the previous year. Pedestrians have a very high risk of suffering death or serious injury when they have been involved in a crash. This is especially true if the accident took place at high speed. Many fatal pedestrian crashes occur at night or in the early morning hours when visibility is low or drivers are distracted and less likely to see a pedestrian. Further, most fatal pedestrian crashes occur in urban areas or on major roadways.
If you have been affected by a pedestrian accident in North Carolina, you are likely to experience a major change in your life. Whether you have lost a close family member, or if you yourself are dealing with the pain and stress that comes from these accidents, it is important to know that you are not alone. Many pedestrians are simply innocent victims who are injured or killed when they come into contact with a negligent driver. In these cases, the pedestrian or their representative should contact an experienced North Carolina pedestrian accident lawyer to discuss their options.
