Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
Pedestrian accidents take place every day across North Carolina. These crashes can occur in a variety of settings, including busy roads and highways, college campuses, small towns, and neighborhoods. Pedestrians are everywhere and drivers must always be alert for their presence. Inattentive driving is a major cause of North Carolina pedestrian accidents. Drivers can be distracted by a number of things, including their cell phones, and even a moment of distraction can lead to a crash that has irreversible consequences.
Last year in North Carolina, more than 200 people were killed in pedestrian accidents and more than 2,200 suffered various types of injuries. Nearly 90% of all reported crashes involving pedestrians also resulted in injuries. This rate is far higher than any other type of traffic accident. These numbers help to illustrate the very major and real risks that pedestrians face when they are involved in an accident in our state.
