Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, there were more than 1,400 fatal car accidents in our state in 2018. This number has remained fairly constant over the last several years even though the total number of car accidents has increased. There is certainly nothing more devastating than the sudden loss of a friend or family member in a North Carolina car accident. Sadly, these serious and fatal accidents take place on our roadways each and every day and innocent lives are affected.
Following a fatal car accident in North Carolina, families can be left feeling helpless and overwhelmed. Not only do they have to adjust to a new way of life without their loved one, but they can also face sudden financial hardships due to the loss of a family member. Under North Carolina law, these family members can have important legal rights following the accident. If your loved one was taken in a crash that was not their fault, you could be entitled to file a wrongful death lawsuit on their behalf. These claims must be filed within two years of the date of death and can seek recovery for, among other things, lost wages, loss of companionship, and payment of funeral and medical bills.
While a fatal crash can be a life-changing event for those left behind, many family members want to aggressively seek justice as they move forward. At Burton Law Firm, we are dedicated to achieving the positive results that our clients seek. We strongly believe that all innocent crash victims or their families should receive full compensation for the damages that have been caused. Since 2012, we have recovered more than 40 million dollars on behalf of our clients.
