Fatal Car Accidents in North Carolina
Fatal car accidents take place across North Carolina on a regular basis. In 2018, there were 1,472 fatalities reported due to car accidents that occurred across our state. Many of these victims tragically lost their lives due to the actions of negligent drivers. Some common causes of fatal crashes include speeding, reckless driving, distracted driving, and impairment. Each accident must be carefully investigated by authorities in order to determine the cause and who should be held responsible for the collision.
The law of our state provides a remedy for family members who have lost their loved ones in a crash. If your family member was killed as a direct result of another person’s negligence, you could be entitled to seek compensation for your loss. North Carolina’s wrongful death statute allows the victim’s next-of-kin to bring a claim within two years of the date of death. A North Carolina wrongful death action can seek compensation for medical bills, funeral expenses, lost wages, and more.
