Fatal Car Accidents in North Carolina
North Carolina can be a dangerous and deadly place for motorists. While the numbers have remained relatively steady over the past few years, our state averages about 1,500 traffic fatalities every year. In addition to reported fatal accidents, there are also about 80,000 injury crashes reported as well. These numbers underscore some of the dangers that are present for motorists and passengers when they get into a vehicle.
No one ever expects to be involved in a serious car accident in North Carolina. It is, therefore, very devastating, to learn of the loss of a family member in an accident. Families are forced to deal with a sudden and unexpected tragedy and must find a way to move forward without their loved ones. The grief and pain from the crash is a major burden for many people. The burden is even greater when your relative was killed in an accident that was not their fault. Sadly, there are hundreds of innocent victims each year who lose their lives because of the actions of another driver.
Under North Carolina law, a family member or relative may be entitled to file a wrongful death action on behalf of their loved one. These claims must be filed within two years of the date of death. A wrongful death action can be utilized to recover needed compensation from the at-fault driver and their insurance company. The money that you receive can assist you with paying unexpected expenses such as funeral costs or medical bills and can also compensate you for lost wages and other damages associated with your loss.
Here at Burton Law Firm, our focus is solely on personal injury claims. Raleigh wrongful death lawyer Jason M. Burton takes pride in obtaining justice for those who have been affected by the careless and reckless actions of others.
