Wilmington, NC (January 3, 2021) – The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to an injury accident in Wilmington on Thursday, December 31st. The crash took place on U.S. Highway 117 near State Road 2004 at approximately 8:20 a.m.
According to a report, Manuel Moreno, Jr. of Rocky Point was driving a 2006 Chrysler in the westbound lanes of U.S 117 when he came to a red light at the intersection of SR 2004. Moreno failed to stop for the red light and entered the intersection where he collided with a 2012 Toyota driven by Erin Fritz of Wilmington. The impact of the collision caused Moreno’s vehicle to spin around and collide with a 2016 Volkswagen driven by Megan Steed, also of Wilmington. Steed and Fritz’s vehicles came to rest in the roadway and Moreno’s car came to rest in the median.
The New Hanover EMS responded to the scene after the accident. At least one person was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center with undisclosed injuries. There is no word on how many people were hurt in the crash. Troopers charged Moreno with failing to stop for a red light and driving while his license was revoked.
