Winston-Salem, NC (January 9, 2021) – A man from Winston-Salem was involved in a deadly moped crash on Friday night. The accident was reported around 11:00 p.m. in the 5000 block of University Parkway.
The Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the accident scene just after the crash took place. According to a report from officers, 62-year-old Amulfo Avellaned Antunez was riding a moped southbound on University Parkway when he slowed his vehicle. A Honda car was traveling southbound directly behind Antunez. The Honda driver failed to slow down and collided with the back of Antunez’s moped. Antunez sustained critical injuries and died at the scene. The driver of the Honda was not injured and has not yet been identified.
The WSPD Traffic Enforcement Unit is currently investigating the crash and determining whether any charges will be filed against the driver. No further details are available.
