Raleigh, NC (March 11, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a high-speed chase that began in Nash County and ended in a head-on crash causing serious injuries in Wake County on Sunday afternoon.
The pursuit began in Spring Hope around 1:00 p.m. At that time, authorities say they tried to pull over 28-year-old Terry Harris Jr. for careless and reckless driving. Instead of stopping, police said Harris drove into Wake County, and at one point, he reached speeds of 120 mph on Highway 64. Harris exited the highway, slowed down to 45 mph, and eventually crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of South Smithfield Road and Poole Road, located just outside of Knightdale.
Firefighters had to cut off the roof of the car to get to the woman inside. Paramedics transported the victim via ambulance to WakeMed in critical condition.
Police arrested Harris at the wreck scene after a 26-mile chase.
Harris is now facing five felony charges, including assault with a deadly weapon and speeding to elude arrest. The accident remains under investigation, and the victim’s current condition has not been released.
We would like to offer our thoughts to the injured victim and her family. We hope for her full recovery.
Car Accidents in North Carolina
Car accidents take place in North Carolina each day, multiple times per day. A significant percentage of North Carolina car accidents will lead to injuries for victims involved. Many of these victims will require hospitalization for treatment of their injuries and will have to undergo extensive medical procedures including surgery, physical therapy, and other types of rehabilitation. The recovery period following a crash can be quite lengthy and can become stressful for crash victims and their families as they struggle to provide for themselves during this time.
Although a North Carolina car accident can certainly be a devastating event, it does not have to define your life forever. If you were not at fault in the crash, it is important to be aware of your legal rights in this situation. Under North Carolina law, negligent drivers can be held responsible for their actions that directly impact third parties. For instance, if you were hurt in a crash that was someone else’s fault, you have a legal claim to recovery. Your recovery could include payments for pain and suffering, lost wages, medical bills, and potentially more. Knowing what you are entitled to can be difficult to figure out, especially if you do not have experience handling these types of cases.
