Injury Accidents in North Carolina
Motorcycles, scooters, and mopeds are utilized by drivers in our state on a daily basis. These smaller vehicles can result in serious and catastrophic outcomes for motorists when they are involved in crashes. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, a total of 973 moped, motor scooter, and motorbike crashes took place in 2018. About 3% of these crashes were fatal for the victim and a shocking 87.5% of the accidents resulted in injury. By comparison, about 35% of all crashes involving passenger vehicles resulted in injuries during the same year. The risk of being injured or killed in a moped or motor scooter crash is obviously far greater than for a more traditional type of vehicle.
Many crashes involving mopeds and motor scooters occur due to the negligence of other drivers. Many drivers simply do not see these motorists due to distraction or other forms of negligent driving. Crashes involving mopeds often occur late at night or in the early morning hours when visibility is already reduced. Drivers who are not focused on their surroundings can quickly cause a serious accident that comes with catastrophic and life-altering consequences.
