Wilmington, NC (May 21, 2021) – A 65-year-old man from Wilmington was killed in a crash involving a tractor-trailer on Friday, May 21st. The collision was reported around 10:00 a.m. on U.S. Highway 421 near Flemington Road.
Police and rescue officials responded to the scene just after the crash occurred. According to reports from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, Mark Fergus was driving a 2005 GMC pickup truck when he traveled into a turn lane and collided with the side of a tractor-trailer that was traveling northbound. Fergus sustained critical injuries and died at the crash scene. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured in the collision.
All lanes of U.S. 421 north remained closed while troopers investigated at the crash scene. Motorists were advised to find alternate routes of travel and to use caution near the scene. There is no additional information available at this time.
