Greenville, NC (June 3, 2021) – Three people were tragically killed in a crash that took place in Greenville on Thursday afternoon. The accident happened on U.S. Highway 264 near the exit for Highway 43 and Stantonsburg Road.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a box truck was traveling on U.S. 264 when the driver crossed the median and collided head-on with a car that was traveling in the opposite direction. Troopers say that the three fatalities were among the occupants of the vehicle. Two other people in the car were taken to Vidant Medical Center, with one person suffering from critical injuries. The box truck driver was treated for minor injuries. No one involved in the collision has been identified at this time.
The crash remains under investigation. Troopers believe that heavy rains in the area may have caused the accident. The road remained closed until around 5:30 p.m. as motorists were advised to avoid the scene.
