Apex, NC (June 10, 2021) – An 18-year-old Garner woman who was killed in a crash involving an Amtrak train on Tuesday night has been identified by police. The incident took place around 10:20 p.m. along Windy Road.
According to authorities, Ava Sory, was walking near the train tracks with another female when she was hit by the Amtrak train. There were 122 people on board the train at the time of the collision. Sory suffered critical injuries and died at the accident scene. There is no word on whether the other pedestrian was injured. No one on the train was hurt in the accident and no additional injuries were reported. The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
Following the accident, U.S. 64 East was closed between the exit for N. Salem Street and Laura Duncan Road. The Apex Police Department, Apex Fire Department and Wake County EMS were among the agencies that responded to the scene. There is no additional information available at this time.
