Craven County, NC (June 11, 2021) – Authorities in Craven County have now identified the firefighter who was killed while responding to a call on Thursday. The crash took place around 2:00 p.m. in the 2200 block of Brices Creek Road.
Police say that 62-year-old Ralph Deblasi was working with the Township 7 Fire Department when he was responding to a call regarding a separate motor vehicle accident. At the time of the call, the road was wet and it was raining. Deblasi was a passenger in the fire truck. As the truck attempted to navigate a curve, the driver lost control causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and crash. Rescue workers arrived at the scene and treated Deblasi for his injuries, however, he ultimately passed away as a result of the accident. There were no additional injuries reported. The name of the driver has not been released.
The crash is still under investigation at this time. There is no additional information available and no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed.
