Greensboro, NC (August 25, 2021) – A 56-year-old bicyclist died following a crash that took place late last weekend in Greensboro. The accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. on English Street.
According to officials with the Greensboro Police Department, 26-year-old Just Wisse was operating a vehicle on English Road when he struck Angela Evans as she rode her bike on the same street. Following the crash, Wisse fled the scene before his car eventually struck a fence and a residential building before coming to rest.
Rescue workers arrived at the scene to treat Evans. She was rushed to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Following an investigation, police charged Wisse with misdemeanor death by vehicle, careless and reckless driving, failing to comply with license restrictions, and failing to reduce his speed to avoid a crash. Officials do not believe that alcohol played a role.
Anyone with any details on the crash is asked to call Crime Stoppers. There is no further information available.
Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family of Angela Evans following this fatal bicycle crash in Greensboro.
Bicycle Accidents in Greensboro
On average, there are approximately 120 fatal bicycle accidents in North Carolina each year. A bicycle accident in Greensboro is likely to lead to a negative outcome. Bicyclists are at great risk of death or serious bodily injury when they are involved in a crash. A bicycle offers almost no protection from the force and impact of the crash. Riders should always wear protective gear, including helmets, but protective equipment does not prevent serious injuries when a vehicle is involved in a crash.
Many bicyclists are killed or injured in crashes that were not their fault. Although a bicycle rider has the same rights as a pedestrian or other individual on the roadway, motorists often fail to honor these rights. This includes drivers who drive carelessly and negligently and fail to follow traffic safety laws, thus causing a serious accident. Impaired drivers also contribute to the number of reported Greensboro bicycle accidents each year. These drivers lack the ability to appreciate the dangerousness of their actions and the risk that they pose to others.
