Mebane, NC (November 30, 2021) – A FedEx driver was killed in a chain-reaction crash that took place near Mebane on Tuesday morning. The accident happened around 8:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 40/85 near the exit for Buckhorn Road.
According to a report from the scene, a 28-year-old Mebane man was traveling northbound in a Jeep Compass when the driver tried to maneuver into an occupied lane. The Jeep collided with a 2012 Toyota Yaris driven by a woman from Burlington. The Toyota then crashed into the FedEx truck, causing it to veer off the roadway and flip over before coming to rest.

There have been no charges filed at this time. An investigation is ongoing.
Our condolences are with the family of Harry Huffman following this fatal accident in Mebane.
Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
An injury crash in North Carolina can be a truly devastating event for victims. We all get behind the wheel or ride as a passenger in a vehicle every day. When we enter the roadway, none of us ever expect to be involved in a life-altering crash. However, these accidents take place every day on our state’s roadways. In 2019, there were approximately 87,000 people injured in North Carolina traffic crashes. The causes of each of these crashes varied, however, almost all of them were caused by the negligent actions of at least one driver. These types of driving behaviors include speeding, reckless driving, distraction, impairment, and more.
When an injury crash occurs, police must carefully investigate the cause of the collision. Following an investigation, the responsible driver may be issued a citation or a criminal charge in connection with the crash. Anyone who has been injured as a direct result of the negligent driver’s behavior can bring a claim for personal injury. Under North Carolina law, these claims must be filed within 3 years of the date of the accident. Injured motorists can seek to recover for a variety of damages, including their lost wages, pain and suffering, medical bills, and possibly more.
