Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
Authorities in our state have been working for years to bring down the total number of traffic fatalities in North Carolina. Despite their best efforts, the fatality numbers have seemingly reached a plateau. Each year for the past five years, there have been approximately 1,400 deaths reported in North Carolina car accidents. Further, it is not just North Carolinians who are injured or killed in these crashes. According to statistics, 7% of all fatal accidents in North Carolina in the year 2018 involved out-of-state drivers. This translates into about 100 out-of-state residents losing their lives each year in crashes that take place in our state.
The cause of each accident must be closely investigated by a team and skilled and experienced officials. Police departments have accident reconstruction units who will look at all of the physical evidence at the scene and put together a detailed summary of how the crash took place and which driver was at fault. In some cases, it may be necessary for an injured victim or their family to obtain their own crash reconstruction expert in order to adequately prepare their legal claims to be handled.
