Pedestrian Accidents in North Carolina
Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable crash victims in North Carolina. While all motor vehicle accidents carry a risk of death or injury, pedestrian accidents in North Carolina pose special dangers. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, 10.1% of all reported pedestrian accidents in 2019 resulted in death. Also in 2019, 231 pedestrians were killed in accidents that took place in our state, an increase of 2.7% from the year before. Pedestrians are much more likely to be involved in a catastrophic and debilitating crash than victims of other types of accidents.
Many pedestrian accidents involve injuries to innocent victims. It is common for motorists who may be distracted or otherwise driving negligently to cause a pedestrian accident. When a North Carolina pedestrian accident takes place, police must carefully investigate the scene in order to determine who should be held responsible. If the driver caused the crash or the accident was otherwise avoidable, the driver can be charged and may also face legal consequences for their actions.
If you or a loved one have been involved in a North Carolina pedestrian accident, there may be steps you can take to seek a recovery. You could be entitled to reimbursement of your medical and prescription bills, damages for pain and suffering, compensation for lost wages, and more. Only a skilled attorney can investigate your case and ensure that you receive the recovery that you deserve.
