Cary, NC (April 29, 2021) – A woman was killed in a dirt bike crash that took place in Cary on Tuesday evening, April 27th. The accident happened around 5:00 p.m. on Old Maynard Road near Old Apex Road.
According to officials, 62-year-old Mark William Abbott was driving a vehicle on Old Maynard when he collided with a dirt bike. There were two occupants of the dirt bike at the time of the collision. The male driver died at the accident scene while a female was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The female rider ultimately succumbed to her injuries on Thursday morning, April 29th. Neither of the victims has been identified at this time.
Following an investigation, police arrested and charged Abbott with felony death by vehicle, felony serious injury by motor vehicle, and driving while impaired. He was taken to the Wake County Detention Center where he was held on a $155,000 secured bond. No additional details are available at this time.
