Catawba County, NC (June 20, 2020) – One man is dead and another person is seriously injured following a head-on crash in Catawba County on Friday. The crash took place around 3:25 p.m. on Startown Road.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that 54-year-old Michael Todd Saine was driving a 1995 Dodge Dakota northbound on Startown. For unknown reasons, Saine crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a 2006 Dodge Ram that was traveling southbound. Saine died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Ram was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Troopers have ruled out alcohol impairment and speed as contributing factors.
