Catawba County, NC (December 23, 2020) – Four tractor-trailers were involved in a serious crash that took place on Interstate 40 in Catawba County on Wednesday. The crash happened around 11:00 a.m. near the weight station in the eastbound lanes of the highway.
The trucks were lined up to enter the weigh station when another truck, driven by Christopher Cornelison of China Grove, collided with the rear of a flatbed tractor-trailer. The collision set off a chain reaction crash involving the other trucks in line. Cornelison was trapped inside his truck and had to be extricated by the Iredell County Rescue Squad and West Iredell Fire Department.
Following the crash, Cornelison was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. There is no update on his injuries at this time. None of the other drivers were hurt in the crash.
Troopers are still investigating the accident at this time. No additional information has been released.
