Charlotte, NC (May 19, 2020) – A man was killed in a fatal northeast Charlotte crash on Monday, May 18th. The crash happened around 8:25 p.m. on Cello Court near Interstate 485.
According to a report, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to a residence on Cello Court following reports of a car striking the home. Police say that a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer collided with the home. 87-year-old Pedro Garcia was inside the residence when the crash took place. Garcia, who was inside the living room, died at the crash scene.
Following an investigation, officers arrested 19-year-old Derius Barton. Barton was driving the Trailblazer when the crash occurred. He was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle and exceeding a safe speed. No additional details have been released.
