Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
Deadly crashes take place every day on North Carolina’s streets and highways. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, more than 1,400 people were killed in accidents across our state in 2018. This means that there are about three fatal accidents in North Carolina every day. Many of the victims of these crashes were innocent and lost their lives due to the actions of other motorists. Speeding, distracted driving, impairment, and aggressive driving can all lead to accidents that have catastrophic consequences for victims and their families.
Under North Carolina law, if you have lost a loved one in a traffic accident, you may have a legal right to recovery. A North Carolina wrongful death claim can be filed against the negligent driver within two years of the date of death. These claims are filed by the deceased victim’s personal representative and can seek compensation for lost wages, funeral and medical expenses, loss of companionship, and more. Although no amount of money can ever replace the loss of a family member, the money that you are able to recover can help assist you with some of the unexpected expenses that arise following a sudden tragedy.
