Charlotte, NC (June 16, 2020) – One person was killed and two others were seriously injured in a head-on crash in Charlotte on Monday, June 16th. The crash was reported around 9:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Tyvola Road.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, a Nissan Pathfinder driven by 43-year-old Melvin Lee Mullis III was traveling northbound on Tyvola when it crossed the center line and veered into the southbound lanes. As the vehicle was in the southbound lane, it collided head-on with a Nissan Pathfinder.
Mullis suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. Two occupants of the Pathfinder were taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Police are still investigating but believe that drug impairment may have caused Mullis to cross the dividing line.
