Pedestrian Crashes in North Carolina
Pedestrian crashes and deaths have been on the rise in North Carolina over the past several years. According to statistics most recently published by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, there were 225 deaths related to North Carolina pedestrian accidents in 2018. This number represented an increase from 2017 when there were 200 deaths due to pedestrian crashes. Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable victims of traffic crashes as they have little or no protection from the force and impact of a collision. As a result, pedestrian accidents are among some of the most severe and catastrophic crashes that we encounter.
If you or a loved one have been affected by a pedestrian accident in North Carolina, you could have valuable legal rights. If your loved one was killed due to the negligence of another driver, you could be entitled to file a wrongful death claim on behalf of your family member. Under North Carolina law, wrongful death claims must be filed within two years of the date of death and can include compensation for funeral and medical bills, loss of consortium, lost wages, and more. These claims are complicated, however, and should only be handled by an experienced North Carolina wrongful death attorney.
