Clayton, NC (October 16, 2020) – Police in Clayton responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident in Clayton on Friday, October 16th. The crash happened around 8:00 p.m. on U.S. Highway 70.
According to Lt. Drew Medlin of the Clayton Police Department, a man was trying to cross the road when he was struck by a vehicle. The man, who has not been identified at this time, was pronounced dead at the crash scene. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian remained at the scene and the driver was cooperating with police following the incident. The identity of the driver has not been released at this time. No other injuries were reported as a result of the collision.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 70 were closed while police investigated the accident and cleared away the wreckage. Motorists were advised to use caution or to find a different route of travel if possible. An investigation remains ongoing at this time and there is no additional information available.
