Durham, NC (May 15, 2021) – Two men from Durham were hurt in a car accident that took place on U.S. Highway 70 in Durham earlier this week. The crash was reported on Wednesday, May 12th at approximately 12:15 a.m. near the intersection with State Road 2035.
According to Trooper D.O. Anders, Jr. of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, James Wills and Edwin Alvarez were both traveling eastbound on U.S. 70 when they stopped for traffic in front of them. At the same time, Timothy Dion Bell, Jr. was also traveling eastbound on U.S. 70. Bell was behind Wills and Alvarez. Bell failed to slow down for traffic in front of him and collided with the back of Willis’s vehicle. Willis’s car was pushed forward into Alvarez’s car in a chain-reaction-style crash.
Both Wills and Alvarez were hurt in the accident and were transported to Duke Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries. Bell was not injured. Bell fled the scene but was later located by authorities. He was charged with hit-and-run and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
