Durham, NC (February 15, 2022) – Authorities in Durham responded to the scene of a deadly accident on Sunday, February 13th. The crash happened around 12;50 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Interstate 540 east.
According to a report from the scene, a 2018 Dodge Challenger was traveling on the highway when the driver lost control of the vehicle as it entered a curve in the off-ramp. The Challenger left the road and traveled approximately 600 feet down an embankment before crashing into several trees and coming to a rest. A passenger was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. The driver was taken to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Neither the driver nor the passenger have been identified at this time. Drivers were advised to avoid the area near the crash scene and to find alternate routes of travel in order to minimize traffic delays.
There is no further information on the cause of the crash at this time. An investigation is underway.
