Durham, NC (December 30, 2021) – A police officer in Durham was seriously injured after a crash on Wednesday night, December 29th. The accident took place just before 11:00 p.m. on Guess Road.
According to a report, Officer B.K. Gardner was operating his patrol vehicle on Guess Road when he came to an intersection. At the intersection, a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Byron Cinto-Lopez pulled out in front of Gardner’s vehicle and the two cars collided. Cinto-Lopez fled the accident scene on foot before he was later arrested on several charges, including DWI and failing to yield the right of way.
Officer Gardner was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries associated with the accident. There is no further word on his condition at this time.
