Durham Car Accidents
Car accidents in North Carolina can leave you feeling very confused and overwhelmed. When you have lost a loved one in a crash, the emotions are strong and you are likely experiencing one of the most devastating and heartbreaking times of your life. Sadly, many innocent victims are killed through no fault of their own when they come into contact with a negligent driver. Last year, more than 1,400 people were killed in North Carolina car accidents, with hundreds of them losing their lives at the hands of a negligent driver.
Under North Carolina law, you could have important legal rights if your loved one has been tragically killed in a car accident. North Carolina’s wrongful death claims can be brought against drives whose negligence has caused an accident resulting in death. Under a wrongful death claim, the deceased victim’s next-of-kin will file a suit that seeks to recover certain types of compensation. The categories of compensation that can be recovered include payment for medical bills, funeral bills, lost wages, and loss of companionship.
