Elizabeth City, NC (March 22, 2021) – A 45-year-old woman and her 11-year-old daughter were killed in a crash that took place on Sunday in Elizabeth City. The accident also resulted in a woman suffering serious injuries. The incident took place around 12:30 p.m at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Main Street.
According to Trooper A.T. Miller with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 45-year-old Amanda Rae Wood was driving an SUV on U.S. 17 when, for unknown reasons, she crossed over the centerline of the roadway and collided head-on with another SUV. Wood and her 11-year-old daughter died in the accident. The driver of the other vehicle, a woman, was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. There is no further update on her condition or identity at this time.
An investigation into the collision is ongoing. No further information has been released.
