Enfield, NC (March 16, 2022) – Two men lost their lives following a car accident in Enfield on Tuesday, March 15th. The accident happened around 5:15 p.m. on Highway 481.
According to Trooper D.P. Efird of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, 23-year-old Douglas Whitby of Roanoke Rapids was traveling northbound on Bellamys Mill Road when he failed to yield to an oncoming Dodge Charger. Two passengers in the Charger, 25-year-old Jesus Rodriguez and 28-year-old Moises Orozco were killed in the accident. A third passenger was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. Motorists were advised to avoid the area for an extended period of time as officers conducted tests at the scene.
Following the crash, Whitby was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign and misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. There is no further information available at this time and an investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
