Fatal Car Accidents in North Carolina
Deadly crashes in North Carolina can occur at any time. Sadly, nearly 1,500 lives are lost, on average, in our state each year. Many of these victims are killed when they come into contact with a negligent motorist. Some common causes of fatal crashes include drivers who are distracted by their cell phones, speeding, impairment, and failing to stop at stoplights or stop signs. Each accident must be carefully investigated by authorities in order to determine the cause and, ultimately, which driver should be held responsible for the resulting damages.
If your loved one was killed in a North Carolina car accident that was not their fault, you could have the right to recover compensation from the other driver. Under North Carolina law, family members may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim against the other motorist. A wrongful death case seeks recovery of numerous types of compensation include loss of consortium, payment of funeral and medical bills, punitive damages, and more. While there is no amount of money that can ever replace the loss of a loved one, filing a claim can help with the unexpected expenses that arise in the face of a sudden tragedy.
