Fatal Car Accidents in North Carolina
North Carolina can be a dangerous and deadly place for drivers. The number of reported car accidents in our state has increased consistently from 2014-2019. In 2014, there were approximately 220,000 crashes reported in our state. By 2019, the number had risen to approximately 280,000. In 2019, more than 1,400 people were killed in North Carolina car accidents and about more than 80,000 sustained some type of injury. Many victims of car accidents in North Carolina are hurt because of negligent drivers and not through any fault of their own.
There is certainly nothing more devastating than the sudden loss of someone you love. These fatal crashes take place daily on our streets and highways. When an innocent motorist dies in a crash, the victim’s family may have a valid claim for compensation. Under our state’s law, a deceased victim’s next-of-kin has the right to file a wrongful death action within two years of the date of death. These actions can seek a variety of compensation, including pain and suffering, lost wages, reimbursement of medical and funeral bills, and possibly more. An experienced attorney is needed to guide you through this process.
