Garner, NC (December 18, 2020) – Police and rescue officials responded to the scene of a significant crash near Garner on Thursday afternoon. The crash took place in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near downtown Raleigh and the Clayton Bypass.
According to officials at the scene, there were two vehicles involved in the accident. One of the vehicles appeared to be a pickup truck which was overturned onto its side. The second vehicle, a passenger car, suffered heavy damage in the crash. Fire crews were also at the scene as one of the vehicles caught fire after the crash. Emergency workers treated at least one person for injuries, although the extent of the injuries is not known at this time. There are no details surrounding the cause of the crash.
The road was narrowed to one lane while police were at the scene, causing significant delays for motorists and alternate routes were suggested. The road later reopened around 6:30 p.m.
