Greensboro, NC (February 28, 2022) – Two men were killed in a multi-vehicle accident that took place in Greensboro over the weekend. The crash occurred around 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, February 26th.
Police were dispatched to the scene in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40 shortly after the accident happened. According to a report, a 28-year-old Greensboro man was driving a black 2006 Infiniti SUV westbound on I-40 with three passengers in the vehicle. For unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the road before crossing the median into eastbound traffic.
While in the eastbound lanes, the vehicle struck a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 20-year-old Greensboro resident. The SUV then struck a black Acura driven by a 32-year-old from Greensboro and a white Jeep Compass before it came to rest.
Two passengers in the SUV; 27-year-old Darius Deshawn Smyre and 31-year-old Antonio Maurice James were killed in the collision. The driver and passenger of the Jeep Compass and the driver of the Silverado all sustained serious injuries. Their identities have not been released at this time.
An investigation into the crash is underway at this time. It is believed that alcohol may have played a role. No additional details are available.
