Greensboro, NC (June 16, 2021) – A sergeant with the Greensboro Police Department was hurt in a crash that took place over the weekend. The collision was reported around 5:45 a.m. on West Wendover Avenue near South Edwardia Drive.
Police say that 32-year-old Kyle Comer, of Pleasant Garden, was driving a 2005 Dodge van when he struck Sgt. DC Vaughn of the GPD. At the time of the crash, Vaughn was directing traffic at another accident scene. Vaughn was hurt in the crash and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. After an investigation, police charged Comer with failing to reduce speed to avoid a collision, failing to move over for a police vehicle, and careless and reckless driving. Further tests are pending but it is not believed that alcohol played a factor.
The crash caused the eastbound lanes of Wendover to be blocked between Meadowood and Edwardia. No further details have been released at this time.
Our thoughts and well-wishes are with the injured Greensboro police officer. We hope for her complete and speedy recovery.
Car Accidents in North Carolina
A North Carolina car accident is a stressful and often life-changing event. According to numbers released by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, there were nearly 300,000 car accidents in our state in the year 2018. Of these crashes, nearly 80,000 people suffered reportable injuries. A car accident in North Carolina can turn your life upside down, causing you to experience physical pain and suffering. The crash may also harm you mentally and financially, as you struggle to return to the life that you enjoyed before the accident. In some cases, injuries can linger for weeks and months after the accident itself.
If you find yourself in this position, it is important to remember that there is help available. Under North Carolina law, you may be entitled to compensation if you were hurt in a crash that was not your fault.
