Impaired Driving Crashes in North Carolina
Impaired driving continues to be a major problem on North Carolina’s roadways. In a recent year, there were reports of nearly 12,000 drunk driving crashes in North Carolina. Nearly 8,000 people were hurt in these accidents while 368 were killed. Impaired drivers are responsible for some of the most serious and deadly crashes that we see on a daily basis. These drivers lack the coordination and skills needed to safely operate a vehicle because their faculties and reaction times are affected by an impairing substance. After drinking too much or taking drugs, a driver who is under the influence is an extreme risk to themselves and others on the road.
Sadly, there are thousands of innocent victims of North Carolina drunk driving accidents each year. These victims are simply in the wrong place at the wrong time when they are affected by the careless actions of the impaired motorist. If you have been involved in a crash involving an impaired driver, it is important to speak with a skilled and experienced attorney who handles these types of cases regularly. Your attorney can carefully study the police crash report, order video from the scene, and take other steps to ensure that your case is properly handled and that you receive the compensation you deserve. In cases involving drunk drivers, you could be entitled to punitive damages in addition to the other compensation that you receive for losses suffered in the crash.
