Greenville, NC (June 26, 2021) – A 48-year-old man from Greenville has been identified in a fatal bicycle crash earlier this week. The collision happened on Tuesday, June 22nd around 9:15 on Memorial Drive.
According to the Greenville Police Department, Rufus Lacy was riding a bicycle southbound on Memorial when he was hit from behind by a vehicle driven by 47-year-old Alexander Dixon, of Snow Hill. Lacy suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the site by rescue workers. There were no other vehicles involved and no additional injuries were reported.
Dixon fled the scene following the crash but was later arrested by police. He has since been charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony hit-and-run involving death. Dixon was taken to the Greene County Jail where he was held under bond.
There is no additional information available at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
