Guilford County, NC (October 31, 2020) – Eight people were taken to the hospital after a hit-and-run accident on Friday night in Guilford County. The accident took place at the I-40/85 interchange near mile marker 138.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol was called to the scene shortly after the collision took place. According to troopers, a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it collided with an SUV. The driver of the vehicle that caused the crash fled the scene after the accident occurred but was eventually apprehended.
Three children were ejected from the SUV and were taken to the hospital. The driver of the suspect vehicle, two adults, and two other children were also transported. All victims were taken to Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. There is no information on the conditions of the injured victims at this time.
The suspect driver was charged with reckless driving and has additional charges pending. The SUV driver was charged with a child restraint violation and child abuse. The road reopened just before 10:00 p.m. after being closed for several hours.
