North Carolina Car Accidents
According to statistics published by the North Carolina Department of Transportation, there were more than 273,000 collisions involving passenger vehicles in our state in the year 2018. A total of 81,966 people suffered injuries in these accidents and 866 lost their lives. Unfortunately, car accidents take place every day across North Carolina and they are often unavoidable despite various safety precautions taken by other motorists.
If you or a loved one have been involved in a North Carolina car accident, it is important to have a full understanding of your legal rights. During this time, it is normal to feel overwhelmed and anxious about your future. Your medical bills may be piling up as you deal with the pain from the crash and the realization that you are unable to enjoy the life that you had prior to the crash. While these feelings can be disconcerting, there are legal remedies available.
Under North Carolina law, the first issue is whether you were hurt by a negligent driver. If you were not at fault for the crash, you can bring a personal injury claim against the other motorist. Once your claim has been brought forward, you can seek to recover compensation for your pain and suffering, lost wages, medical bills, and potentially punitive damages. In the case of a serious accident, these damages can be extensive and it is important that you receive a fair settlement.
