Car Accidents in North Carolina
North Carolina can be a dangerous place for motorists. In 2019, nearly 1,500 people were killed in car accidents on our state’s roadways. A North Carolina car accident can be a defining moment in your life. For families who have lost a loved one, the pain and devastation caused by a fatal traffic crash will linger for months and years following the accident. There is certainly nothing more difficult than losing your loved one to a crash, especially if the accident was not their fault.
Following a fatal car accident in Jacksonville, it is important to fully understand your legal rights. Under North Carolina law, a victim’s next-of-kin may be entitled to bring a wrongful death claim in connection with the crash. These claims must typically be filed within two years of the accident. Plaintiffs who file wrongful death claims can seek recovery for a variety of damages, including funeral and medical bills, lost wages, loss of companionship, lost wages, and potentially more.
