Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
A car accident in North Carolina can be a devastating experience for victims and their families. Sadly, hundreds of innocent motorists are killed each year in crashes that are not their fault. In 2019, there were more than 1,400 fatal accidents reported on our roadways. While the cause of each crash may vary, deadly accidents can be caused by speeding, reckless driving, impairment, and more.
If you have been injured or lost a family member in a traffic accident, you could have legal rights following the crash. North Carolina law provides for family members to receive certain types of compensation if their loved one was killed due to the negligence of a third person. Under our wrongful death law, family members can recover for funeral and medical expenses, lost wages, loss of companionship, and punitive damages. Only a skilled and trusted attorney can ensure that your rights are fully protected in this situation. It is important never to try and handle your claim yourself. If you do, you are likely to end up settling for an amount that is far less than what the case is worth. You could end up being financially responsible for a crash that was not your fault. Your attorney can help value your claim to ensure that you are receiving the amount that you should.
