Kenansville, NC (November 8, 2020) – Four people, including three children, suffered injuries when a car collided with a tractor-trailer in Kenansville on Saturday. The crash happened around 8:50 a.m. at the intersection of North Carolina Highway 24 and North Carolina Highway 50.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the crash scene. According to Trooper Britt Chastain, a gray sedan and tractor-trailer arrived at the intersection at approximately the same time. The tractor-trailer ran a red light, causing a collision with the front driver-side of the sedan. The four occupants of the sedan, a woman and her three children, were all taken to a Greenville hospital with serious injuries. Their injuries, however, are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.
Troopers are still conducting an investigation and there is no word on potential charges at this time. No further details are available.
Our thoughts are with the victims of this crash in Kenansville. We hope that all affected are able to make a full and complete recovery.
North Carolina Commercial Truck Accidents
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, there were approximately 10,000 crashes involving trucks or tractor-trailers in North Carolina in 2019. These crashes resulted in thousands of injuries for those involved. A North Carolina truck accident has the potential to result in very serious and life-changing outcomes and even death in the most severe cases. Commercial truck crashes occur with great force and the potential for injury is much greater than an accident involving a passenger vehicle or other similar vehicle.
There are many reasons that a commercial truck crash can occur. Although the trucking industry is heavily regulated with driver and mechanical safety standards, these standards are not always rigorously followed. Driver error plays a major role in many North Carolina truck accidents. Drowsy driving, distracted driving, and impairment are frequent causes of truck accidents across our states. Truck drivers are often held to higher safety standards due to the inherently dangerous nature of operating a commercial vehicle. In other cases, a trucking accident may occur due to some sort of mechanical failures, such as improper equipment on the truck itself. The cause of each trucking crash must be carefully investigated, often by an expert, in order to determine why the accident took place.
Needless to say, responsibility for a trucking accident can be a complicated question with many possible answers.
