Fatal Accidents in North Carolina
When we think of serious and fatal traffic accidents, we typically think of cars and other, more traditional passenger vehicles. However, other types of vehicles also present risks and, in many cases, can be far more dangerous than car accidents. According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, there were a total of 867 moped accidents in North Carolina in 2019. From this number, there were 731 reported injuries and 28 fatalities. Based on these statistics, we can determine that about 85% of all reported moped crashes resulted in injuries. Mopeds offer little protection from the force and impact of a collision. In addition, riders are often thrown from the moped, creating the chance of additional serious injuries and death.
If you or a family member have been affected by a North Carolina moped accident, you may be entitled to compensation. If your loved one was killed by the negligence of another driver, it may be possible to file a wrongful death claim. Under our state’s law, a wrongful death action is filed within two years of the date of death. A wrongful death action can provide much-needed financial assistance during a difficult time as you could be facing many unexpected expenses after a sudden tragedy.
