Kinston, NC (April 30, 2021) – A 53-year-old Kinston man died after being hit by a Kinston police officer earlier this week. The incident was first reported around 8:30 p.m. along North Carolina Highway 11 near the intersection with Caswell Street.
Officials say that Lyndon Williams was walking near the roadway when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Kinston officer Treyston Johnson. Williams suffered critical injuries and died at the accident scene. Johnson was transported to UNC Lenoir Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. At this time, police are continuing to investigate the collision. The events that led up to the crash are unknown and no details have been released at this time.
There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed at this time. No additional information is available.
