North Carolina Pedestrian Accidents
According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, there were 225 pedestrian crash fatalities in our state in 2018. This number was a higher amount than the year before when 200 fatalities were reported in pedestrian accidents. A pedestrian accident in North Carolina can leave victims with life-changing injuries and, in the worst-case scenario, can lead to the loss of a loved one. The cause of each pedestrian accident must be carefully investigated by authorities who will determine whether negligent driving led to the crash.
Many North Carolina pedestrian accidents are caused by drivers who are not paying attention to the roadway. Pedestrians are extremely vulnerable individuals and they have no protection from the impact of a serious collision. Unfortunately, many pedestrian crashes cannot be avoided by the pedestrian, who has little time to react in order to avoid being struck by an oncoming vehicle.
If you have been injured in a pedestrian crash in North Carolina, it is important to protect your legal rights as soon as possible after the accident. Under our state’s law, injured accident victims can recover compensation, including payment of their medical expenses and lost wages. If your loved one was tragically killed in the crash, North Carolina’s wrongful death laws provide a basis for recovery. All of these claims are complicated, however, and should only be handled by a skilled and experienced North Carolina personal injury attorney. At Burton Law Firm, we put your needs first and we will fight hard for you when your future is on the line.
